Author Biography

Volker Kunze is driving the Digital Transformation since now 28 years. His subline is “Disruptive³ - 3D printing, Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence driven Cycle of Knowledge”

The cycle of knowledge includes disruptive technologies like eXtended Reality (from VR to AR) and artificial intelligence to support the digital transformation within and outside of the Additive Minds Academy to bring Learning & Knowledge to the place where you are in the moment of need.

In 2011 he won the Award for the "Best Serious Game" and in 2021 for the "Best in Augmented Reality" & "Best in all 75 Categories" by the eLearning Journal.

Since 2021 he is Board Member of the Advanced Manufactiong Council at EU Tech.

Q1. What was your company’s unique approach in integrating technology to achieve UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)?

Our main focus areas are:

  1. Sustainability³ due to
  • Sustainability in Additive Manufacturing with Digital Value Chains; (Spare) parts if required and predict & fulfils demand but also optimize costs,
  • Sustainability in design by reducing material requirements, reducing size and weight,
  • Sustainability in education through global online courses and training, xR (AR-VR) training at the moment of need,

  1. Eliminate manual recurring processes with the usage of AI and free your mind for creativity.

It all starts with building capacities through training skills and making industry knowledge accessible to all. In all areas of Industry 4.0! Globally!

 

Q2. What are some examples of SDG-focused projects that your company is currently working on?

Within the last 3 years, we disrupted the Areas of Training, Learning and Knowledge.

We took the content from analogue classrooms to the Digital World. We created up to 100% Online Learning in Blended Learning Concepts for eight different Job Roles within Additive Manufacturing.

To spread we created the first E-Commerce for EOS GmbH at https://store.eos.info/pages/training to make Knowledge accessible anywhere you are. And the starting course is free of charge.

Not enough, we worked on bringing Training & Knowledge to the place where it is needed in the Moment of Need via eXtended / Mixed Reality from Virtual to Augmented Reality.

So today no matter where you are you could let appear a 3D Printer in front of you an get familiar, train procedures with our iOS and Android Apps – which even are free to use to get familiar.

Next is to extend the usage of Artificial Intelligence for Skills & Competencies and individualize Learning Pathes and adapt to your personal background.

 

Q3. What are the most difficult challenges your company and other companies face generally in the implementation/adoption of new sustainable technology?

That companies behave on the way they produce things like they did in the 20th century.

So even Covid and the crashes of analogue value chains did not bring enough pain to them to change the way of production and reduce emissions, or materials.

It will come to a point where if a competitor changes then they pulled back by 2 to 3 years – minimum.

In addition, with old manufacturing behaviour, you are at 99% of what is possible – with Additive Manufacturing, New Design possibilities & Freedom of Design based on Quality Education, you will have 70% potential – minimum!

Like in many other areas of Industry 4.0: Nearly everything is there – you only must start to USE it!

 

Q4. Tell me about a time your sustainable tech helped another company realize their SDG goals.

First our Learning Materials with the Starter Package gives you the answers you need to start with Additive Manufacturing – the Basics, Part Screening & Selection of Parts that make sense to be brought to Additive Manufacturing and finally use in Calculation.

Then to save Resources due to Digital Training in the Moment of Need and no need to drive/fly around and wait for the next Training spot.

Next Design your Parts and reduce the amount of needed material like in Cooling/Heating up to 92% with same functionality.

Then Digitizing the Value Chain as you could insert functionalites directly into your product and reduce amount of parts needed up to 95%!

With Remote Assist looking through your eyes to your problem and not sending out a Technician.

Giving the Chance to help yourself with eXtended Reality Apps and scale Knowledge globally.

 

Q5. What is the biggest challenge your company has handled while enabling your sustainable tech accessible to different communities?

The Biggest Challenge is creating Awareness – especially during Covid when you have no Fairs and no appropriate Digital forms of Fairs to reach manual thinking & acting customer. So to reach out and address to whom it may concern.

Due to Digital formats the rest is pretty easy.

 

Q6. Cost-effective sustainable tech can be lifesaving and planet-saving approach. What actions your company takes to make your sustainable tech economical and a fit for the large-scale adoption?

Tear down the cost of Education, followed by reducing Cost of production and by adding Automatization and Software solutions to our machines, to exploit our technology on highest level regards productivity and output with lowest costs.

 

Q7. What do you believe will be a global, long-term, impact of your sustainable tech integration?

Significant reduction of Emissions & usage of natural Ressources, time to be educated, time to solve problems. This results in Cost saving, Speed of Production & availability of Parts, Speed in Education & Scaling.

Plus a global approach to spread Knowledge, Learning & Training – no matter where and who you are.

 

Q8. What’s your vision for the sustainable tech industry and your company’s role in it?

Combining all benefits from Industry 4.0 to save our environment and give our minds Freedom of Creativity by eliminating recurring manual processes by Artificial Intelligence and serve you individually with the portion of Knowledge & Learning you need to proceed.

Female Empowerment in the Digital Age

Dr. Laura Bechthold is a social scientist and innovation professional from Munich. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Friedrichshafen Institute for Family Entrepreneurship at Zeppelin University, she works on questions regarding responsibility and decision paradigms of family entrepreneurs. As the Director of Science Services at Philoneos GmbH, she supports family fi rms in establishing organizational structures for innovation. Laura holds a BA in Business Administration (Zeppelin University), a Master of Business Research (LMU Munich) and an MSc in Sustainability Science and Policy (Maastricht University). Her PhD research focused on unconscious biases in female entrepreneurship. Her fi eld experimental study on female entrepreneurial role models was awarded twice at international conferences. Laura’s passion lies in building bridges between science and practice to foster an open dialogue and co-create solutions for an inclusive, sustainable and prospering society. Therefore, she contributes to EUTECH by writing about entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities for contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
